Managing urological disorders in children can be a complex challenge for the pediatric urologist. Tests to diagnose abnormalities can be traumatizing for the young patient. In some cases, use of a urinary catheter can create its own set of problems, such as a catheter-associated UTI. Use of a portable ultrasound instrument to measure bladder volume is noninvasive, accurate, and reliable. Post-op, it can help diagnose retention and help prevent unnecessary catheterization.
