We started Diagnostic Ultrasound on April 2, 1984. Like a lot of start-ups, the
company began in a modest basement workshop—with the genuine hope of making
a real improvement to patient care.
We asked a lot of questions of health care providers, listened carefully, forged
our way through product modifications too numerous to count and in 1989 the BladderScan®
bladder volume instrument was born.
Over the years, we retained that process and the early principles of providing innovative,
reliable and easy to use portable ultrasound products. In what seemed like an instant,
our company grew from only 3 people to nearly 400, and today our BladderScan®
bladder volume instruments are sold in over 80 countries around the world.
Raising the bar
In 2005 our company met a kindred spirit, Saturn Biomedical, located in Vancouver,
Canada—and by January 2006 we officially became colleagues.
We recognized that Saturn’s GlideScope® video largyngoscope,
invented by Dr. Jack Pacey, was a revolutionary, invaluable tool to health care
providers who needed to manage difficult airways.
So we combined resources and our ability to help improve health care multiplied.
As our company now embraced a broader range of technologies, we needed to update
our company name—to reflect the synergy between the two companies, the diverse,
evolving nature of our products, and the principles we work by. And so we became
Verathon -- from the Latin “veritas” (truth) and the Greek “marathon”
(an enduring, concentrated effort).
Verathon is driving change in healthcare. We believe our job is to improve the quality
of care provided by health care providers to their patients around the globe, and
the quality of life for people everywhere.
In the short time we have in this world, there aren’t many
things more important than that.
